V League Playoffs 2010

2010 V League playoffs summary

Thanks to all of our players, coaches, parents, and Board Representatives for a terrific 2009-10 V League Winter Season.  For those of you who attended some or all of the Tournament Championships on February 28th at Oxnard High School, I don’t need to explain what a grand day it was, but for those of you who didn’t have a chance to be there let me give you a brief summary of the day’s events.

We had all seven Division Championships, boys and girls both, and the place was hopping all day long.  All Stars and Most Valuable Players were introduced at halftime of each Division’s Championship game, and for the first time we had a professional photographer on hand to snap photos of the All Stars and action photos of the games themselves.  If you go to http://armedillaphoto.smugmug.com/Sports/V-League-Championship-2010 , then look for Sports, then photos posted 3/1 from The V League Championships you will find lots and lots of great photos.

There was also excellent coverage of the event by the Ventura County Star, and we had almost a full page of coverage from the Star the following Tuesday, along with photos of the Boys 8 game and final standings and All Stars.  Try the following link:

Sharp looking V League T shirts and crew neck sweatshirts were on sale for the first time, and parents snapped them up.  Much thanks for that, too.

The games themselves were all exciting, and let me try to give you a short Division by Division breakdown:

Girls 5/6:  Agoura narrowly defeated Newbury Park, a close and hard fought game.

Girls 7/8:   Agoura defeated Ojai, again a close game, in which Ojai fought back and made it a nail biter.

Boys 4 - Newbury Park defeated Westlake.  A fun game - Westlake played hard and competed but NP was the best team all season long.

Boys 5 - Agoura defeated Newbury Park - an awesome performance by the Agoura boys who were more than ready to play.

Boys 6 - Ventura defeated Conejo.  A feel good story for Ventura.

Boys 7 - Conejo A defeated Camarillo - the Conejo team is a powerhouse.

Boys 8 - Camarillo defeated Newbury Park - Camarillo front court was dominant.

Altogether - a very long but extremely exciting day for everybody.  Good crowds, good sportsmanship...and let me say this, having seen travel team games for years and years, the quality of play this year was awesome, particularly in the Boys Divisions.  There are some tremendous players coming along, the high school stars of tomorrow.

Now it’s a little bit of a rest for everybody, then it's on to the summer season, which goes from late June to the end of July.

Best to everybody,

        “Commissioner Richard”
