Commissioner’s Corner – Playoff Edition

Hello once again to all the players, coaches, and parents of the V League.  As the regular season is winding to a close, this is a good time to look at the Division races and see how things are shaping up.  In Boys 4 the Newbury Park team has dominated all season long and looks to be the favorite in the playoffs, despite recently losing their first game.  But Westlake, Conejo, or even Agoura could emerge.  The Agoura Boys 5 team is undefeated as of this writing, but will have plenty of competition from Newbury Park among others, and Agoura hasn’t forgotten about being upset in the Championship Game last year by Newbury Park.

In Boys 6 Ventura and Moorpark have both had great seasons and look like they will get the first round byes in the playoffs, but neither can forget about Conejo, which was the power in this Division last year, or even dark horse Agoura.  In Boys 7 the preseason favorite Conejo has rolled over all competition and has not lost as of this writing;  they will be heavy favorites in the playoffs, but there is the memory of Camarillo’s miraculous win in the Championship game last year and they are very much still around.  The Boys 8 Division co favorites would have to be Camarillo and Newbury Park, who will get the first round byes.

In the Girls Division, the two Agoura teams will be favored, but in the Girls 5/6 Division Newbury Park has been coming on strong and could be trouble in the playoffs, while in the Girls 7/8 Division Agoura can hear the footsteps of both Ojai and Ventura.

Don’t even think of missing Tournament Championships Day, Sunday February 28th at Oxnard High School, where all the 2010 V League Tournament Champions will be crowned.  The action begins at 10:00 A.M. with the Boys 5 Championship Game, followed by great Finals all day long at a great location with huge crowds.  You can find the entire playoffs schedule right here, elsewhere on this site, and don’t forget to purchase your V League tee shirts and sweatshirts, your opportunity to support youth basketball and make a fashion statement all at the same time.  Believe me, this V League apparel, which is distinct from what the players win, is really sharp.  Check it out!

I’ll be seeing you around the gyms the rest of this month, in what is going to be a grand finish to a great season.  Much thanks to our players, coaches, parents, and the volunteers who run the V League for a wonderful and memorable season.
